GGC Noisy Exhaling

Postby Kiyomi1793 » Thu Aug 02, 2012 1:45 pm

Hello~ I'm not sure if this is a sign of a respiratory problem or not.. Casper :gcc: inhales silently, no problems with that. But when he exhales, at times he'll blow really hard. Imagine this: keep your mouth shut and then quickly and sharply blow out from your nose. That's the sound it makes but not all the time.
I weigh him every night and he's been at a solid 59 grams so he hasn't lost weight. His poop is normal. He's eating as well. His cage is located next to the kitchen, but we don't own any toxic pans (I forced my mother to throw them all out before we brought Casper home).
I plan to call the vet tomorrow but I'd like to know if anyone has information on this. Thanks (:

It sounds like he may be wheezing a bit. I know sometimes when I've had asthma attacks I sound noisier than when I'm breathing in.
I'm glad your already going to take him to the vet, even if they say he ok its reassuring to know that and if there is something it should be easier to treat.

Let us know what they say please. :)

Hmmmmm......... It sounds like he may have some water in his nose and he may be trying to blow it out, but it might not be because normally when birds have water in their nostrils, the sneeze. He may be wheezing, but im not sure to be honest. Make sure to tell us how the vet visit went.

Thanks for the reply, guys! (:
I just got back from the vet. I had a general physical exam done and he's in great health! He has a few stress marks on his feathers but he's only 8 months old so she said not to worry about them. His breathing is fine. I noticed he does the noise while extremely excited so it might be a new behaviour he's starting.. or a new word!
What's even better is the vet knows the breeder I bought Casper from and told me all her birds are very healthy and that she's a great breeder.

That's great! I'm glad he's okay.

I was going to ask you if the noisy exhale was something that happened in a series or whether it was just one, and whether it was something he did after chattering. When my GCC is talking, she'll sometimes let out a noisy breath of air like what you described. It's just one, though, so I figured she was trying to say something that began with an "F" sound.

I started doing it back, though, so it never evolved into anything. Now she just does it when she's happy. :)

I'm so glad there is nothing wrong. At least you can relax now.

Thank you for updating.

*sigh of relief*

Awesome  glad to see he is doing fine and well done on taking him to the vet, it wasn't serious, but it could have been. Hope he is doing well!
