Nutmeg?

Postby GreenWing » Sat Aug 11, 2012 12:32 am

I made an apple pie tonight, and it had some nutmeg in it... well, Tiki got into it a bit but only had a little...

I googed "nutmeg and parrots" and found that it's considered toxic for African Greys? Will Tiki be okay? She only had a little of the pie but I'm worried.

Either ring your vet for advice and see what they advise (your best option) they may be able to get it out her system before it causes damage or give something to counteract it.

Or just keep a ridiculously close eye on her for any subtle changes. Chances are she will be ok but I wouldn't use this option personally as parrots hide things very very well.

Thanks Marie. Lol I'm very good about these things but she likes to eat what we eat and has a mind of her own.

Anyway I'm sure all is well. Apparently Nutmeg isn't deadly but can make a bird vomit? She didn't so I'm sure she's fine. I may still call the Avian vet.

Thanks again.
