My Rio is dead! :'(

Postby Vickers » Fri Aug 17, 2012 3:49 pm

I lost Rio my Cockatiel this morning. He was killed in a freak accident :'( My sister was staying round my flat with one of her friends and her friend isn't too fond of birds an Rio flew into the room, I went and got him and he flew into the hallway; I shut the door and as I pushed it Rio had done a U-turn and the door closed on him, breaking his neck :'( the doors in the flat are heavy duty fire doors so he didn't stand a chance. His eye was bulging. He didn't die instantly he fell to the floor and was flapping round; I picked him up and had to give him to my sister. He died seconds later in her arms. I am absolutely devastated. I haven't stopped crying all day. He celebrated his first Birthday on the 12th of August just gone :'( he was my baby and I saw him as my child and he saw me as his mummy. I don't know what to do with myself. Everything reminds me of him and I can't stand the silence :'( I blame myself for his death, if only I hadnt closed the door he would still be alive. I miss him so so much!

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how it is to lose a pet from an accident and the guilt you feel after. One of mine died after an accident with a toy and I didn't stop blaming myself for a very long time. It was not your fault so try not to blame yourself and know you did the best you could, it was a freak accident and could have happened to anyone. You will always miss him but I promise the pain does lessen with time which is hard to believe right now I know.
Remember to take care of yourself whilst you grieve for your baby.

Sorry Vickers, it was an accident mate, so you can't blame yourself, things happen...

I really don't know what to say, other than keep your spirits up, life does move on and so will you... :)

Rio knows you loved him...

Cheers

Vikers - it was an accident. Yes you blame yourself and yes if it was done differently Rio would still be with you. Accidents happen all the time and we blame ourselves. We wish we could turn back time and do it different.

Keep in mind that you loved that little cockatiel and gave it the best you could and he knew it. You gave him a good life.

Cry. It may take a full three days of crying but the crying will stop. You will still be sad but that can't be helped.

I have always resisted getting another pet when I loose one. I know it cannot be replaced in my heart. Eventualy some other little pitiful thing comes my way and needs a home and love. I feel guilty for a long time for giving it the love that I had for the other. Though I can love the new one my lost one is always in my memory for all the special things about it. I miss every one of them.

I'm so sorry. So so sorry. I can't imagine the pain you must feel. It's ok to mourn. It's not your fault. I'm sorry :(
