Quaker parrot feather issue

Postby miajag » Thu Aug 30, 2012 6:44 pm

Hey, been a while. I've noticed recently that Winnie's wing feathers often appear very mussed and ragged looking. At a glance it looks like overpreening perhaps but I'm curious whether it could be something else. When she gets wet, like takes a bath or goes in the shower or whatever, the feathers look perfectly fine afterward but within a day or two they're back to looking torn and ragged. Couple of pics below:

Thoughts? I've got a vet appointment scheduled for a couple weeks from now, but I'm curious as to whether you guys have seen anything like this on your birds before.

Eh, I wouldn't be worried if she always looked like that. I've had her for almost 3 years now though and I've never seen that until the past month or so. Sign of stress perhaps?

My Quaker looks like that after I take him out of a flight harness. Maybe yours was just doing some rough play and messed up his feathers a little bit.
