losing feathers

I have a one year old green cheek conure. A few months ago he lost all his chest feathers. When about half of them grew back, he lost them all again. Same thing is happening again. I have not seen him pulling them out, unless he is doing it at night. Otherwise he seems happy and healthy. Does anyone know if this is normal?

That doesn't sound normal, I would take him in for a vet visit.

I agree, trip to the vets is needed regardless of if he is pulling them out or if they are just falling out.

Thanks, I plan to take him this week. Just wondered if anyone knew what was going on with him.

Could be anything I'm afraid. Lack of a nutrient/s, a medical issue, boredom, doing it for attention etc. Its most likely a medical issue although my green cheek once pulled his chest feathers out when I was too sick to handle him for a few days, since then I slowly put the birds on a variable routine so they are used to changes and it has never happened since.
