Should I take him to the vet?

Postby aec827 » Sun Sep 23, 2012 8:42 pm

I have a parakeet that is about 3 years old, and he lives with another parakeet the same age. I know parakeets are prone to a little trembling or shaking, but recently I've noticed he's shaking rather violently, and holding his wings out slightly while doing so. He hasn't shown any changes in behavior, and is still eating, drinking, and interacting with the other parakeet. Any advice? :)

Could be normal parrot behavior. Chico does this when he is interested in something not within reach. He seems to be preparing for flight. Is your parakeet fixated on something in the distance and is he vibrating his wings and is in a crouched position?

I assume you mean budgies? I used to work with two aviaries full of them and had one of my own and I have never seen the behaviour you describe. Sometimes they do lift their wings up and down a little bit when deciding whether to fly, babies will often quiver a little when begging but those behaviours are generally quite obvious.
Without seeing it its hard to say but I would reccommend you visit the vet just in case. Are there any other signs of illness at all?
