Best Pellets??

Postby samsmom » Fri Oct 12, 2012 5:12 pm

Hello...I have a Jenday conure and am wondering which size of Harrison's organic is best to buy. He is used to Zupreem fruit blend for med/lg. birds....they had a recall and now I am scared to feed him this product period! Thank you for input. Other food suggestions are welcomed as well.
Thank You :sun:

I think you should feed him whatever size he'll eat. However, just as a cautionary tale, our guy was originally being fed the large size pellets. But after a while, we realized he was picking out the little corn pieces in the pellets and discarding the nutritional portions. So make sure your guy doesn't do the same before proceeding with the larger size if that's what he's going for.

We're no longer feeding him Nutriberries due to a similar recall issue that I believe actually did make him ill. Scary. Then again, even human food is contaminated half the time!

I feed my Senegal the coarse size. She was eating that when i got her but it's a good size for medium sized parrots.

samsmom stay away from Harrison's because they use, peanuts, corn, soybean and sunflower seeds in their formulas and this is not good for birds to eat all the time, these 4...

I fed a Mynah bird Harrisons for a few years thinking this was great stuff and Harrison's brags about how your bird is going to look better on it, well my bird did look a little better, but not as good as they make it, in fact my bird looks better and healthy on TOPS.

So for a pellet for the meantime, this is what I give both my birds.

TOPS makes a better all organic pellet;

And if anyone knows a better, or just as good organic pellet, I'm looking for more...

I use Sleek and Sassy mix. My Sennie loves it and where I am in Portland, OR it is quite popular among exotic bird owners.

That said, of course a pellet mix should be secondary to fresh foods (particularly vitamin A foods).
