Humidifier ok?

Postby Tro » Thu Dec 06, 2012 1:34 am

I have been having sore throats thanks to the dry winter air and needed a humidifier. I just bought a puregaurdian cool mist ultrasonic humidifier.

It's the small 12 hour one, and I will keep it on my night stand and turn it on when I sleep. My parrots night cage is right up against my bed next to my night stand. Does anyone if this type of humidifier will be ok to use with him so close to it?

It shouldnt be a problem, as long as you clean it everyday! Bacteria growth is something you want to avoid!

Keep it clean (and don't let things get wet/damp) and he'll be just fine.

ACTUALLY it is recommended to run a humidifier when you have parrots as the humidity level in our homes (especially in the winter) is well below the level that they need----leading to an increase in dander, itching/plucking and eyes/nose/throat/respiratory infections due to dryness and irritation.

I'm hooking up Jacko's humidifier in the next little bit (we had one but it malfunctioned  The humidity level is 65% usually in the room. 50% is the minimum.

I just bought a Crane cool mist humidifier.. And i'm also worried about the safety of my conure.. I am in a small bedroom and my bird is with me in the room. I am running it for the first time tonight but of course i just thought about it's safety for my conure. I am going to clean it like a maniac daily but does anyone know if thats good enough? It doesnt have a filter, so what about bad stuff getting into the air still, even with cleaning?

As far as I know, it should be okay as long as you are diligent with cleaning. I have a humidifier as well, same type as your's with cool mist, and it's not been a problem.
