I am also glad to hear baylee is doing better now
I have to question the worming though if you dont mind? Just I dont see it as necessary unless baylee goes outdoors so I was wondering if your vet explained why it was to you.

It is necessary just like it is in dogs and other animals, and Baylee was full of parasites which means it was necessary, birds should be dewormed once a month. Parasites can also cause infections and such. Baylee never goes outdoors but her food was constantly invaded by ants so yes deworming its important.

Okay I understand the ants thing might make it necessary but what I mean to say is I've never heard it recommended to keep worming an indoor kept bird as they dont get the chance to pick up those parasites in the first place.

Any insect can be carrier of parasites so it is important to keep deworming them to avoid a reinfestation of parasites, its a new thing to deworm birds but it helps people to be more concious about their birds, here in my country not many people take their birds to the vet. My own mom thought it was unnecessary to take Baylee to the vet she never heard such thing in her life. In fact i'm going to study veterinary in 2013 i start in march or september i still have to confirm which of those, and until now i want to specialize in parrots Well my mom thinks i'm crazy she says i'll waste my time in the specialization but i'm very decided about it!

Ok thanks, I will look into it again and see if the recommendations have changed in the UK recently. I'm not convinced it is needed, certainly neither of the two vets I have seen recently have either asked if mine have been wormed or recommended they are. Already read it along with alot of other articles.

I think of worming as a treatment, not a preventative measure. Nothing i have just researched has changed my mind on that so far, although I may start getting my birds poop tested for worms on a regular basis.
If it aint broke, dont fix it. No medication is 100% safe, so why give it if it isn't needed?- read about the panacur scare when using it with birds.

That said, I respect the fact you trust your vet and may well disagree with me.

I'm not using panacur but Albendazole it's similar to panacur but better for birds and cheaper than panacur, what my vet said i should do was 2 days straight with deworming to get rid of the parasites and then repeat every 30 days. 0.1ml. Yes i do trust this vet, the vet before that didnt even took an x-ray to know what was wrong that one i dont trust him but this new vet i do trust her.

The panacur was just an example, no medicine is 100% safe but its up to the individual to dcecide what the bigger risk is. I'm curious now as to how much the cost of monthly worming compares to quarterly/6 monthly faeces tests. I think I will ask my vet when he rings.
