That sux. Try to find where they are coming in... usually follow a line of them to the window or place. Try sealing the crack or keeping windows/doors closed. Get those ant baits that are enclosed where they go in through a hole. Avoid spray type stuff. Put lots of those traps at the entry point and under the bird cage. Wash down the cage but particularly the cage legs with soap, bleach, and whatever you can think of (bird safe) to get the scent trail off. Ants follow some kind of chemical trail that they lay which is why they can march in perfect formation like a road exists. Once you erase the path, it will give you a window of time before they discover the place anew to allow the traps to work.

Another thing to consider trying is moving the cage to a different place or room to throw the ants off guard and again lots of traps where they used to go.

Ok the cage was 1st in one room and always thought that the ants were there because that room was next to the kitchen but then Baylee got sick wth a respiratory infection and then i moved her cage to the 2nd floor (its a small 20 mts espace that we rarely use so windows are always closed) and well next day after i moved the cage darn ants were there o.o, then 2 weeks ago i bought new food bowls the ones that you hang on the cage, her old ones were on the bottom of the cage, well ants went away, also cage model is vision cage so it got no legs, i even put the cage on a small night table that we werent using, thinking that maybe being away from the floor will keep ants away, it took them 3 days.Well new food bowls ones worked until today. :(

Peppermint oil is awesome, is natural and works great. If you use the peppermint oil you will want to place your bird in a different room as it airs out. Clean your bird's cage with vinegar; ants hate vinegar. Lure the ants away from your house with a dish of water and some food they're after. A compost is great for this, too.

If the cage is on a table then try greasing the bottom of the table legs with vasaline, it will stop the ants climbing up into the cage whilst you deal with the problem.
Can't say how it will work out with the table though but I assume the cage isn't on an antique or very expensive table anyway, at least I wouldn't keep a cage on anything I was worried about damaging at any rate.

The vasaline method works very well. It also keeps ants out of fruit trees. If you don't have anything free moving in your house you can use Tarro. It is an ant bait and poison. It draws ants and all their friends in so you will see more at first but then it will kill the whole colonly. I have even taped it to the underside of tables near the cages and pet food.
