Wall Heater Fumes

Postby Pomlover2586 » Sat Dec 15, 2012 2:03 pm

So I have a random question. I have a wall heater that runs off of the same gas in my kitchen, but I haven't turned it on since before we got the birds. Today it's very cold and I want to turn it on, but then I thought what if the fumes are bad for the birds? I don't think it's Teflon coated- but how can I be sure?

I have a wall mounted natural gas heater in my dining room to warm that room and the sunroom. I have used it for about ten years now and get it inspected each year before turning it on. My son put some kind of gas detector in that room and it has never registered emissions. The birds love the extra heat. I run my ceiling fans to circulate it. Don't worry, Myrtle is smart and flies under them.

if you are concerned, and don't want to take a chance, your safest bet would be to call your gas company that provides gas to the kitchen and the wall heater, and ask them what kind of gas it is, and ask them to inspect your heating system for safety. they may be able to come in with a device that can detect the release of any fumes into your living space from the heater. they may also be able to explain to you if it is coated with anything.
