CONSTANT REGURGITATION...HELP!

Postby elizabethmm85 » Fri Dec 28, 2012 4:23 pm

I have a 12 year old Green Cheek Conure who has been regurgitating on EVERYTHING for the past month. He wakes up at 6 am and regurgitates, eats it and goes back to bed. Then throughout the day will continue to do the same. I took him to the vet and had tests and an xray done and they found nothing strange and recomended removing his toys, making him sleep 12 hours and not cuddeling with him. I have done all of these, he is litterally in a cage with only bars and food so now he just regurgitates on the floor...or the bars. They recommended hormone treatments if he doesnt stop but im worried that maybe it is not a hormonal issue considering it is winter and he has never done this in the past 12 years. Any recommendations??

Green cheeks breed when there is less light not more so you may want to consider upping his light levels not decreasing them also regulate his food so he does not have any excess as again parrots only breed when food is abundant. I would only remove toys if there are ones he is particularly attached to otherwise has nothing else to think about other than his desire to breed. You should remove anything nest like or that can be seen as nesting materials. One other suggestion is to limit physical attention, I know green cheeks are cuddle bugs but keep any attention tobhead scratches and keep it brief to avoid over stimulation. Hope this helps.

My vet may not know much about green cheek conures because she was saying to leave him alone in the dark at least 12 hours a day and hope that he sleeps...all that did was piss him off lol. I will try your suggestion thank you.
