Eye closed?

Postby xxlazaro » Thu Jan 10, 2013 8:41 pm

Hello I have to cockatiels and right now I noticed that one of them when she fluffs up one of her eyes closes shut and at first I thought it was because she was tired but I don't know because she has never closed her eye that frequently cause when she's tired she either preens or closes both eyes. Although I thought it might be hurt because today during the day they were in their cage and I was doing homework and I heard her shriek when I checked her she seemed fine and then tonight my cousin was over our house and I took them out but she was scared so she flew out of my finger and landed on her cage and she flapped her wings and flew to the back of the cage (outside) and she fell to the back where the Window sill is and maybe she hurt her eye because a few minutes later I saw her eye that way. I'm sorry for the long paragraph but I just wanted help because I'm worried if anyone can help me I would appreciate it thanks!

Birds do not have to blink, and when they do they're either extremely comfortable or showing signs of trust. Bigger birds can also use blinking to manipulate you to put your hand in their cage so that they can bite you, but that's not applicable to this case.

It sounds to me like she was just relaxing on her perch, and as a result she shut one of her eyes.

My bird actually plays a game with his blinking. He loves it when me and my husband blink back!

Your'e very much welcome!

I love how you're so aware of your birds' behaviour and how involved you are. However, I would like to remind you that your parrot picks up on every stress that you feel. They're very intuative little creatures and seem to feel pain whenever you do. You should be careful to stay calm throughout all of your questioning and to limit the stress you feel towards their odd behaviour.
