Strange droppings- help!

Postby Eric&Rebecca » Fri Feb 01, 2013 7:59 am

Hi,

I have noticed the last two days Eddie's dropping have gone dark green. They usually browny/greenish and fairly dark and his 'morning poop' is always a big darkish green but now some of his day poops have gone this way too.

Recently, we have managed to get him eating some pellets which are brightly coloured all different colours but I don't think he is eating enough of these to make a difference to his poop just yet and I would have throught they would make his poop multicoloured!

I have read it can be a sign of a fatty liver or liver disease so now I'm really worried... again. They are completely formed/ coiled and the white part is as normal and the urine is clear. He is acting normal and hopping about being incredibly active and doesn't seem to mind being picked up and played with. He isn't in any pain (as far as I can tell) and he's eating normally and picking up more and more pellets. He has had fruit (apple and pear) and a small piece of plain unsalted popcorn. The only other thing we have changed is putting him in a new larger cage (Montana mini san Remo).

I have to ring back the avian vets tomorrow (we have an appointment already booked with the avian vet for a check up Sunday). They suggested trying him with millet spray to see if this changed the droppings back to colour. I spoke the the student vet and not the avian vet and she just seemed to think I was being silly.

I'm terrified he's got a fatty liver because we've had a job getting him on pellets up until now. He is about 8-9 months old and he is molting, which appears to be taking a while but his feathers are in good condition with no discolourations or deformations. He did lose a couple of his new adult tail feathers but we think this was just a molting thing because the replacements after started to come through already.

Anyone else had this problem with multicolured pellets?

Oh wait... just realised all the green coloured pellets missing from his pellet bowl...

Whoops silly me! Guess the student vet was right :-/

No he's all fine now and eating nearly everything I put in front of him. It was like a switch. His poops have returned to normal colourings now. Also we think he may have been a bit stressed from moving to a new cage but he's totally fine now. He's also regrowing those tail feathers he lost as well so I'm no longer worried about that. He's going to get a vet check soon anyway as he needs a pedicure :p
