update on biggles

Well I had the blood tests back today not the news I wanted. There is a lump in the air sack which is making his breathing short the blood test didn't show anything major that could be a issue.
So talking to Marie (the vet) she said it could a fungal infection in the sack or a fungal absyit don't know if I spelt that right or worst case a tumour I almost started crying at this point.
I've got to speak to the previous owner as I've only had him for 6weeks about and love him to bits need to see if I can claim on there insurance as to have a camera put inside Biggles is going to cost me about £200 plus medication if it can be treated then 6 weeks later it will cost me about the same again.
I could try the fungal treatment to start with but when I was talking to my partner if which I hope is a big if, if its cancer it could have gotten worse that I cannot take that chance I wouldn't do that if it was one of my kids so I'm not doing it now I ain't got the money to pay for more vet bills as it cost £400 4 days ago so I might have beg steal or lend or a loan as I've got to get this sorted ASAP I can't see my best friend been ill I will keep you all informed on how I get on with previous owner or how I get the money and how Biggles is doing

You have my deepest sympathies, I know how hard it is when your pets are sick as I'm in a similar boat but has been ongoing for a long time now. Your obviously a caring and dedicated owner and it might be worth talking with the staff at the vets to see if they offer some sort of scheme so you can pay the fees off in installments if you can incase the insurance wont cover it.

Might you consider keeping all the posts relating to biggles recent diagnosis, symptoms, treatments etc on one thread and keep updating like a kind of blog/diary? I've done this with my two as I thought it might one day help someone else- at the very least you can read back through it yourself to remind you of what happened and when which might help your vet if you forget to tell them something.

i think my vet does payment plans. when i took my in he said depending on the test results the cost for treatment could have been close to $1,000. fortunately it was only $200. and we did have enough to cover the higher amount but he did say he would take payments. another thing you might try is contacting a rescue i've donated money to vet costs for rescue birds but they might be able to put it out that you're in need of help with vet costs. i've found bird people stick together when it comes to helping eachother out.

I'm a newbie here but your trials with Biggles' health moves me to wish you both well. I hope you can raise the funds you need and that everything turns out for the best. Vet bills can be staggering, I know from experience, and there's never a good time to have something major come up. Good luck.

Well took Biggles back to the vets this morning. They have just phoned for me to pick him up Marie said it not a cancer she is 100% sure about that I can stop worrying about that then what she did say was his air sack should be like looking at cling film but Biggles is white so she thinks it is a abscess a build up of puss lung fungal or bacterial infection she has done a biopsy and sent it of to the lab so in a weeks time I should be a 110% sure what it is just glad it's not the big C.
Well I did say about the cost the 400 a week ago cleaned me out so I couldn't tell Marie when I could have had this done. My parents phoned me the night after and I told them what had happened and they ask if I would be upset if anything happens to Biggles as ive only had him for about 5weeks so I said to them as they have a dog that they both love to bits I would be as upset as you if anything happens to Ruby there dog my dad said you sound upset son my reply was I'm gutted I've never got on with my parents didn't see them for over 10 years for reasons but they have still put the money in the bank to pay the vets bill but I must take Biggles up to wales to go and see them 2an half hours drive when Biggles is better so that's how I got the money thanks to my mom & dad thanks to you both and I do love them both I just don't tell them

Its a good foundation to start I think it's about time to let water under the bridge go and start again Marie.and biggles I'm amazed at just how good he is and how he is letting the vets work on thanks for all the support and I will let you know when the biopsy back with the results

The lab results came back yesterday, it's a abscess of fungal infection a build up of puss which can be treated but might not ever go. Marie the vet also works at the safari park has got some medication for me which would normally not be sold but if it was its normally about £900 for a course of it so I've got that she said it's a super drug for fungal infection god bless marie. The only downside is that it might not ever clear up but if that's the case once we got the lump to go we just have to keep on top of it.
Right the people I brought him of ain't offered any help at all but the are a rescue centre for parrots only a small one run from there home. They told me when I got him they had to put him on a inhaler because of his breathing and said the vet said it's nothing to worry about. So I got Marie to get the medical history of there vet marie was upset by what she read it they had put him on a inhaler for 2 hours and advised them that it should be investigated into but they left it yes they left it a parrot rescue center that have got insurance did nothing.
As soon as I got home I phoned them I said you say you care about parrots and call yourself a rescue centre your vet told you to get Biggles looked at but you didn't even when you got insurance and wouldn't have cost you anything at all you still left it I went mad told them that they are full of bs I've got they insurance to send a claim form out and I got them to fill it out it's not the money it's the fact that they sold him with the disease and the fungal infection as I said it not the money cause if I get any money back it will go on a new cage as big as I can get I owe him that after everything he's been through
