Anyone else's birds 'greet' their food?

Postby Eric&Rebecca » Wed Feb 06, 2013 11:02 am

I have to ask because I think our cockatiel is so funny when he does this. We are trying new fruits with Eddie and everytime a new fruit is tried he greets it. It tuts at it, and does heart shaped wings and goes hellooooooo heloooooo helllooooooo before either eating it or concluding he's not a fan.

Anyone else's birds do this?

thats hilarious. i've never heard of a bird doing that before!

my GCC Ringo makes a low-pitched trilling sound (almmost sounds like a growl) when he sees food that he likes. sometimes he continues to make the sound while he's eating.

he also makes the same sound when he's discovered something he's been looking for, like a favorite toy that had rolled into a corner, or a foraged food item.

Awwww that's so cute..

We can't give him mango anymore because he started flirting with it after he greeted it. So no more sexually stimulating fruits for him!

thats sort of funny but i kind of feel sorry for him as well my irn greets her own reflection in her foodbowl but i dont think its talking to her food.

if i give her a toy with a wooden bead on it she will try and feed the bead especally if its red because her beak is red so i think she mistakes it for the beak of another bird.

indian rinegnecks seem espcialy senstive to color but i dont know about other peoples birds.

Edmund's food bowls aren't reflective and its the same hellooooo he does to us so he's definitely greeting his food. He only does it once when its first put in his cage.
