Ok, guys, i will keep her clipped, not for Being selfish, but due to the fact that her left wing is deformed, when i rescued her she was 9 weeks old and it was already like that. Vets had seen her wing in case it was an old fracture or something like that and it doesnt show in the x-rays. The fact her wing is deformed dont allow her to fly correctly. Possible things on why her wing got deformed are: 1. It was congénital, 2. Her mother didnt gave her enough calcium and vitamin D3, 3. She was the runt, 4. She didnt received any sunlight as a baby, before i rescued her, 5. Bad handling from the breeder (which it could be, when i rescued her wings were clipped all the way to the point of the cover feathers).
She used to hate it when i touched her wings with my bare hands,at first it was very hard to pet her , stuff that involved touching her wings or her back, that was not possible without getting bitten. If i left her flighted there could be accidents, as she doesnt know how to control her muscles she could crash into anything. Even vet told me to keep her clipped, as the vet saw in December while Baylee was half flighted she didnt turn to the left on time and almost crashed in the wall i caught her before it happened. Cause saddly her left wing doesnt work properly. That is called a medical reason not Being selfish or anything like that. She flies very short distances, and one thing that i dont agree with atleast in my case, that was mentioned in Michaels article that clipped birds will poop on You because they cant fly somewhere else with Baylee is so not true, she cant fly but she walks from my shoulder to my hand, i extend the hand out of the couch and she poops and then she climbs back to my shoulder. She doesnt poop on me unless she is angry at me then she do it. Please dont assume that anyone with a clipped parrot is selfish or lazy like the article said, i would give my life for Baylee, she is my whole world, in fact when she was sick in December i put every penny of my savings so she could recover i spent 98% of them in her vet. And my mom was offered a Job in Spain and i'm already saving money to pay all the paperwork of Baylee even tho we expect to travel in Dec 2013, i think always first in what she needs and what she likes, instead of thinking on me and Being selfish, i get up and i dont have my breakfast until she eats hers, for me she always is 1st, she is my baby.

Anyway If her wing was not deformed i would keep her flighted and train her and such but its not like that and vet told me that If she was a macaw or a cockatoo it could be placed with surgery in the right position but she is too small to consider that as an option so her wing will be like that forever. Even her feathers on her left wing grow bending to the right side. So i have to clip them anyway cause there is a point from bending so much to the right that they break and then she starts picking at them when that happens and after clipping them she is like nothing happened and stops picking her left wing feathers. She is a special needs bird! Not a Normal bird with two normal Wings. She can only fly straight half foot and land (not perfect most of the times she crashes at landing). When she tries to turn (she needs both wings to work properly for this) or go up then she crashes. That is like walking without a leg i believe or something like that, Anyway i have medical reasons to keep her clipped, i had thought of the flighted thing but like i said her wing is not normal and makes her flying harder and that makes her prone to accidents.

Right I'm not saying you should feel like you have to justify your reasons for keeping baylee clipped but why didn't you say that in response to the first post? Stories like that are educational and should be shared, not pestered out of people.

For the record, I have said before and will say again that I am very pro flighted, however I do believe there are a few very very rare birds who it is better for them if they remain clipped. Whether this is the case for baylee or not I do not know. I do feel that the majority of deformed birds learn to manage their condition if left to do so but again I don't know how bad baylee is so its purely my thoughts in general, not a comment on your specific case.

Sorry, i dont like when people feel sorry for her, my mom still feels sorry for what happened to her, full story is: on march 6th 2011, i went to pick some seeds and gravel and egg food for the two lovies i had then, this woman Came in and asked the owner of the petshop If he would accept a lovebird that she didnt wanted he say i'm sorry but no, i cant accept it,did i sold it to You? Woman said:no, then the owner said: i'm sorry but i cant accept it, woman said ok she took the box and put it next to the trashcan just outside of the pet store i saw her and asked her do You have a lovebird in that box? She said yes and i dont want it! I took the box from the floor and saw this tiny 9 weeks old baby, i told the woman i take it, she was walking away already. Only when i got home i saw the wing and how baddly clipped she was, 1 week later i took Baylee to the same petshop to see If they could check her wing and made sure it wasn't broken. And to check her sex, back then i didnt know her sex. Thats mainly what happened to her as a baby, woman wanted to throw her in the trashcan so when the people that pick up garbage came they would toss it away. Baylee used to hate when i touched her wings and back, but with time she has learned to trust me enough that she doesnt complain at all now. She still hate when i put her on her back, also vet told me the wing could be result from inbreeding, plus her reproductive problems.

Here are some vídeos of my baby.

How could she do that to that poor bird!!!!! That actually made my tear! awwww I would have done the same thing. Poor little bird. I'm pro flight as well but I can see how in Baylee's case it would be more acceptable to clip.

Awwww

In the 2nd link you can clearly see her wing how is in the wrong position. Its not really deformed but its in the wrong position so that will affect her flight abilities! Heck sometimes (very rare) she loses her balance while climbing and i suspect it is because of her wing position. I told the vet about it & she agrees it must be the wing and nothing else and since for parrots their wings are their equilibium tool in land & air. It must be the left wing.

Baylee is the cutest! I'm glad you rescued her. Some people are so callous with animals...

its unspeakable what that horrible woman tried to do to Baylee, leaving her near the trashcan like that. my heart was in my throat when I read that.

Baylee is very lucky to have you as her Mom. I can tell from your posts that you really care for her and do your best for her. I agree with Eric&Rebecca in that I can see how in Baylee's case clipping would be necessary for her. I didn't know her history until you mentioned it right now.

i checked out the videos you posted of Baylee, and she is adorable. I'm glad she's doing so well.

all the best :)

try copy & paste... see if that works.

With my job (i had worked in shelters) and had seen lots of things and had come realize that people can be very cruel when it comes to animals. So i dont get surprised that easily anymore.
