Shaking

Postby marie83 » Tue Feb 19, 2013 6:46 am

Ollie has been doing a really fine "shaking" recently. It isn't all the time, but I cant decide if its because he is fearful, cold or another symptom of his illness.

I've taken a short video of the shaking but it hasn't really come out very well. He has a ceramic heat lamp switched on just over the top corner of the cage where he could sit if he wanted to (he has been huddling under it at times) so I'm tempted to rule out that he is cold. Either way this shaking isn't normal for him. Just not sure whether to include it in my main thread about whats going on. Can anyone give any insight on the possible cause? The shaking is most noticable towards the end of the video but he is doing it throughout.

For some reason this particular video doesn't want to embed in this message so heres the link

It's hard to tell from the video, Marie, but Scout seems to shake or slightly tremble sometimes although he appears to be very healthy and comfortable. It must be worrying for you though as Ollie's been so poorly. Sorry I can't offer any insight...but he's a beautiful boy! Gorgeous colours

Yea I'm a bit gutted the video quality wasnt good enough to show the shaking as its really hard to describe. I guess its a really subtle but fast movement, you wouldn't notice it unless up close and looking around the outline of his body to start off with. I can also feel it when he is on me but it feels worse than it looks. I will mention it to the vet anyway even if I sound ridiculous, I think he already thinks I'm more than slightly bonkers anyway :P
Thanks for the reply and Ollie still appreciates the compliments :)

hmmmm... i couldn't perceive the shaking in the video, so I'm not sure. he does look beautiful and very sweet :)

i'm wondering if his head feathers are always that puffy? or only when he thinks he can get a head scratch? i thought perhaps that might give a clue as to whether its cold thats causing the shaking that your noticing.

He is rather puffed up and sick bird looking alot lately but he doesn't actualy seem to be cold like he did about 2-3 weeks ago. I'm wondering if he is still cold but not as cold? Then again he didn't appear to be doing this shaking 3 weeks ago...

Arrghh i'm fed up with trying to analyze everything and both of them seem to be coming up with more and more new behaviours then flipping back again. I dont know where I am and I feel like such a bad owner.

I want to keep an eye out for new strangenesses in their behaviour incase there is anything that will make a diagnosis more likely but at the same time I just want to run away from it all. I will never do that but....

Nika shakes kind of like Ollie is doing, very tiny shaking that's barely noticeable. I think Diggy does too. It always worries me when I can't identify the reason causing the shaking, such as excitement. Although she does it when she's poofy or not poofy, but looks like Ollie is poofy throughout the video. It would worry me too :[ Poor baby. He sure is cute though!

If it had been going on since I got him it probably wouldn't worry me but its only been happening the past week so alongside everything else it feels twice as bad. I'm fairly certain its not excitement as Ollie tends to get aggressive pretty quickly in those instances. I'm not sure if it is fear as his fearful behaviour isn't like that, although he has been scared of me recently, he runs away or cowers not leans toward me.
