A vet told me a couple years ago that my bird wasn't getting enough sun and she could tell by looking at her throat.. And I've also read that senegals eyes turn orange the more they're outside, and hers aren't orange at all. So I struggle with this and could use improvement! She's been outside for a couple hours today and always does well, but I only really do it when my boyfriend isn't home all day because he smokes out there.. It makes me nervous to put her travel cage on a chair outside, I like her in the porch. Is that okay to do that if she's out of my sight? I get nervous about hawks/cats/dogs/wasps/insects/etc. when she's not in a screened porch but maybe I'm overly protective.

Any other solutions to getting some fresh air & sun? Her cage is also against a window, which she loves, but is it true that the glass filters out most of the important UV and vitamins?

Yes, apparently modern glass filters out UV so the bird needs to be out in the great outdoors. I think your concerns are appropriate though - I wouldn't feel happy leaving Alfie outdoors if I couldn't see him. I'm really lucky in that I have an enclosed patio but still I wouldn't leave him out of my sight. I'm wanting to get him outdoors more too - I'm waiting for the new travel cage I've ordered to come and for some nice warm weather. The travel cage is on backorder and the sun....well....it might be a while  lol
