Holiday cage

Postby Eric&Rebecca » Sun Mar 03, 2013 1:10 pm

Later in the year we are going on holiday and my parents always look after the birds. By this time we will have both tiels. Providing they get on, would this cage be big enough for both of them for 14 days?We don't want to spend out a huuuuge amount because it will only be used for when we go on holidays. They have a really beautiful montana cage at home but i can't afford £140 for another one of those!

The selection of cages in the UK is somewhat limited and this is the biggest one i can find for a reasonable price

This is the cage

I would go for a wider cage, rather than a tall like the one you posted, but otherwise it looks just great for 14 days.

Have to agree that wider would be better if you can find one but for 14 days it shouldn't be too much of a deal if they have plenty of out time as well. Hopefully they will get on well enough to share, shouldn't be a problem with 'tiels as I know you will be careful introducing them.

I would also prefer a wider one! The permenant cage is a Montana San Remo Mini (playtop) and that is wide. The bar spacing on this is 1.2cm the same as the holiday cage.

I just can't seem to find one that's wider thats big enough for two that's isn't a montana or a kings, which aren't particularly great for collapsing and moving. Also anything I find with an adequate size has a too larger bar spacing... sigh! I don't mind paying up to £80 but it has to be able to collapse and easy to carry (light!). This will also double up as the quarantine or sick cage and will be used for 30 days with the new bird and then perhaps another 30 days during introduction (depending on how that goes).

If anyone knows of any cages I can purchase in the UK that would be wider than and suitable for housing 2 cockatiels. Plenty of outside cage time so that's not a worry but they both male so they active and like to climb even when they are in the cage.

My birds can have the best quality cage my budget can stand and I love the Montana cage but I can't move that one and I can't afford to buy another one (unless the new tiel doesn't get on in which case I would get a new one).

I've tried second hand places but I'm not always confident if I don't know what brand or where exactly its come from.

Do you think the powder coating will be ok on this?- Liberta seem an OK budget brand but I'm worried about toxicity.

I think you will be okay, it isnt as you say, a home cage but rather a temporary cage to stay in for a couple of weeks at most. I think the cage you displayed will do just fine for that purpose, even if it isnt ideal =).

I'm just worried because there's two of them... I feel twice the responsibility!

Pesonally I would wait before deciding if one or 2 cages are appropriate but I guess that depends on how much later you are going in the year. :) are you off anywhere nice btw? and is there room in your suitcase for me? I need a good holiday lol.

We are going in June so if we need two cages we will just buy another of the same for one each. It depends if they get on or not. Either way we will still need to buy at least one as the quarantine cage so I thought they could double up as the holiday and quarantine sick cage.

I am going to Shanghai, China. So looking forward to it but I will miss my babies. Last time we went I drove my mum mad calling her to check on Edmund.
