Lol!

Marie 83:

its going to double up as the new quarantine cage. If its big enough for two and they get on it will save us some money rather than having a new quarantine cage and a holiday cage. If they don't get on... then yes we will have to buy another but we can cross that bridge later on.

We had to discard the previous quarantine cage as a possible biohazard after Percy. Just as a precaution against any disinfectant resistent nasties before the post mortem and tbh it would remind me of Percy so I wanted to get a new one anyway for my own peace of mind. Even though I know now Percy wasn't sick with a virus or bacteria I can't bear the thought of replacing Percy and another bird in his old cage would be difficult.

Got you, assumed you still had percys old cage to steralise and re-use. I understand why you felt it was better to start afresh though :)

Hi guys,

So I managed to find a wider one with the right bar spacing but i'm really not sure about the quality of this one... It doesn't look sturdy and i'm not sure it's big enough for two tiels...

I'm so used to the huge Montana they have I feel bad putting them in anything smaller (although the other tiel isn't arriving till next month) pending vet checks, bloodwork and poopology and generally being ready to leave.

Opinions?- I know neither cage is exactly the caliber of their permenant one but which one do you think would be best this one or the previous... as a holiday cage

I would probably choose the second one, its so hard to choose cages when you cant physically see them, my reasons being they will probably sit near the top so it will give them more space to move out of the way of each other rather than one having to sit lower down the cage. If the birds are travelling in the cage itself then I would secure the bottom with something to be on the safe side, those clips that secure the base aren't the best but certainly aren't the worst I've seen.

I would also go with the second one, I think it looks better :-). As a holiday cage, I think it will do just great!

I like the shape but I am not liking the feeders in the slightest. Or the plastic holding it together.... Get the feeling Eddie going to chew that to bits... He used to chew his first cage so we changed it then he figured how to escape from that. Also the door is tiny.... Edmund won't be able to go in and out n his own. We can get him his current cage by clicking and saying "in" but this only works with big doors.... If its small he won't!

The shape on the other one isn't ideal but it seems less plasticky and cheap looking... But I don't like the tallness but at least he cannot chew it...

There seems to be no middle ground with cages.....

I think I'll have to think some more....

@marie83

No they wouldn't travel in it- we have separate travel carriers. I just hate the idea of the feeders and that plastic trim.... Eddie would chew and chew.... And there's no way I can tell by looking if its chewable.... Or if its toxic!

Liberta are a known brand but I don't know about riviera...

Ok that cage has some really bad reviews... Cracking plastic and bad quality feeders... The reviews on the original seems quite good. I think I'll get the original but see how they get on. If the invade each others space then I will buy the second one.in light of the reviews I would rather have an odd shape than a potentially dangerous cage.

Found a flight cage that could be good and within my budget but I'm concerned that it isn't branded and there's not a huge amount of information about it....

More opinions guys....

Not too sure about no 3, like you say theres no brand name, but only because your 'tiel sounds quite destructive. I think your going to be hard pressed to find any cages of a lasting quality within your budget but you have to remember it is only a travel cage so short term use, if its only being used a couple of times a year you should be fine with cage no 2 I should think. If the cage isn't being used for travelling it will be secure enough once set up. As for the seed dishes you can block the holes up and use the metal coop cups in its place, give them stuff they prefer to chew on and I'm sure all will be fine, you are right though the plastic on the bases can be a bit brittle but if you avoid bashing it about you should be fine.
