AVOID Bird Cages 4 Less, birdcages4less.com

Postby upsidedownbirdy » Sat Mar 16, 2013 2:41 pm

I have had the worst shopping experience of my life shopping at birdcages4less.com. Since then I have found scathing reviews posted on the internet with similar experiences of cage defects etc. and no resolution. If you or anyone you know have had similar experiences please respond to this post. Collectively we have a larger voice. Let’s protect our wallets, and our feathered friends from unethical business practices and from people who do not care about customers and their pets.

Luckily never had this experience yet... but I've seen my fair share of dodgy cages and websites. Anything marketing itself as budget or cheap I would avoid. A bit like Primark!

Although my Montana cage is half the price of a Kings cage (which I've owned previously) and I do prefer the Montana, so price isn't always the best indication but its more key to look at recommended brands like Montana, Kings, Liberta, Riviera. Good cages will always cost more, its definitely worth shelling out the dough for the permenant cages in the long run. Holiday cages, still stick with a known brand, don't go with anything non-branded unless you make it yourself and know exactly what the materials are. In my opinion anyway!

Sorry to hear about your negative shopping experience but I sure am glad you posted....if not just to vent but to also make others aware. I recall checking out that same website a few years back but there must have been something about it that made me feel uneasy because I never DID purchase from them.

Anyway, there are a few websites you can visit where you can voice your opinion, check to see how many other people have had the same problem and possibly get some type of resolution...or at least some self-satisfaction that you got the word out. Below are a few links:

http://www.pissedconsumer.com/

http://www.ripoffreport.com/

http://www.planetfeedback.com/
PlanetFeedback will forward the letter you write/post directly to the company and request a response...altho I did just do a quick search there for birdcages4less.com and saw there were no previous letters written by consumers. But hey, SOMEBODY'S gotta be the first one to complain, right? :-)

Its the cages... its not so much looking out for bad stuff but for buying the right brand. Montana, Kings, Liberta, Rainforest... all decent brands. Look out for those you can't go far wrong.

Whilst what you say is a good guide I might add that I've had several "cheap" and shock horror "unbranded" cages in the past which are still going strong now. My cages aren't exactly proof that they will survive a lifetime of constant use as they are only 10 years old now and currently stored in my parents garage, nor am I saying they would be any good for a larger bird. I am confident they would last a bird anywhere up to african grey sized for several more years (apart from the fact they are far too small to house a grey). Out of 5 cheap cages only one of those I would say is unsuitable for long term use now.

Ollies cage is also fairly cheap at about £80, its massive, strong, non heavy metals and can easily house and african grey/amazon with comfort. We have had 3 years of use out of it so far but can easily see it lasting even a strong bird a lifetime. My only complaint with it is the doors small, I cannot reach everywhere in the cage should I need to get Ollie out in an emergancy and I need to remove the bottom tray and crawl underneath the cage to get inside to change toys or perches about but thats a design flaw rather than the cages being poor quality.

I have a montana one in the spare room which was given to me in the hope I could find a safe way to restore it- its rusted due to it being non-welded and the previous owner spraying his bird in it occassionally.

Of course Marie is also quite right, there are some unbranded cages that are really good too! My opinion is just one from a person whose always gone with the safety of brands (and the hefty price tags that usually comes with them!). I'm sure there are some great non branded cages out there, just be careful to watch for what materials are used and how specific the retailer is on the details of the cage.

+1, I would never disagree with this advice :)

You never know, maybe Ollies cage was so cheap because of the design flaw lol.

I don't think any cage is 100% perfect LOL. I love my montana cage for the boys but there's still things I would change about it. Well worth the £130 though
