Whilst what you say is a good guide I might add that I've had several "cheap" and shock horror "unbranded" cages in the past which are still going strong now. My cages aren't exactly proof that they will survive a lifetime of constant use as they are only 10 years old now and currently stored in my parents garage, nor am I saying they would be any good for a larger bird. I am confident they would last a bird anywhere up to african grey sized for several more years (apart from the fact they are far too small to house a grey). Out of 5 cheap cages only one of those I would say is unsuitable for long term use now.
Ollies cage is also fairly cheap at about £80, its massive, strong, non heavy metals and can easily house and african grey/amazon with comfort. We have had 3 years of use out of it so far but can easily see it lasting even a strong bird a lifetime. My only complaint with it is the doors small, I cannot reach everywhere in the cage should I need to get Ollie out in an emergancy and I need to remove the bottom tray and crawl underneath the cage to get inside to change toys or perches about but thats a design flaw rather than the cages being poor quality.
I have a montana one in the spare room which was given to me in the hope I could find a safe way to restore it- its rusted due to it being non-welded and the previous owner spraying his bird in it occassionally.
