Looking to get a bigger cage

Postby hlasdf » Sat Apr 06, 2013 7:34 pm

I'm looking to get a bigger cage for my lovebird, Daisy because she seems to have outgrown her cage a bit. I found these two on craigslist for a pretty good price, and I'm wondering if they're the same or different. They look pretty similar but I wanna be sure. I'm leaning toward the cheaper one, but the more expensive one looks a little more roomy...?

Feel free to add your own different suggestion! I'm completely fine with used cages as long as they're in decent condition.

Oh, and here's Daisy's current living space. She's grown a lot since we brought her home!

The main thing to look for is correct bar spacing. Larger cages tend to have larger bar spacings. Male sure second hand cages are free of rust and damage. When you get them be sure to disinfect.

Thanks, I'll make sure to watch out for that. Do you know what would be a good spacing for a lovebird?

I think it's the same as a cockatiel but I'm not sure. Certainly no more than 3/4" but to be safe I would go for a 1/2" which means one of those cages isn't suitable. You may want to consider the Montana San Remo Mini or the Montana San Diego MINI. The mini versions of the larger cages have the correct bar spacing with the benefit of the larger sizes. I have the San Remo mini playtop for my cockatiel (soon to be 2 in the same cage hopefully). That cage fits 3 cockatiels comfortably though personally I'd only put two.

The Avilon Powder coating and removable grate makes it soooo much easier to clean and the castor wheels are amazing for cleaning behind the cage or moving it into/out of the sun or outside. When it's stationary you can also put boxes between the wheels to hold all your birdy stuff :-)

They have welded bars and amazing quality. My cage cost £130. Kings cages are really nice but I don't see a huge amount of difference (aside from the aluminium) between the King's and the Montana that warrants a near £400 price difference.
