Big enough for two senegals?

Postby SevenX » Tue Apr 09, 2013 11:11 am

My senegal has a 32x20x22 inch cage (width x depth x height). I'm thinking about getting another senegal, but I'm not sure if I need a bigger cage or not. The bird also has two playgrounds in the room he's in and gets his regular out time, but not daily.

Welcome to the forums!

I am afraid that that cage will not be big enough for 2 senegals. May I ask why your senegal isnt allowed out of cage time on a daily basis? I am sure he would love it :)!

if thats where they will spend most of the times then no thats not big enough. but if your birds got out of cage time for most of the day and that cage was only to spend sleeping and maybe a few hours inside then it would be fine.

My male sennie is never caged and my female lives in a cockatoo cage and she comes out for five hours every day -two of them on her own and three on me for one-on-one time. Be careful with not paying enough attention to your sennie, they are not the most forgiving parrots there are and can turn VERY bitey if they are unhappy -especially the males!

Why would you do that? That's a really bad idea.

i think what Michael means is that its a bad idea to keep a senegal with another senegal since senegals works best alone. so might be best to keep them in their own cages instead of buying 1 big enough for both. better idea would probably be to not get another bird at all since sennies like being the only birds.

How old is your :senegal: , is the new one going to be opposite gender?

Senegals can be quite territorial, I really think it's an incredibly bad idea put your new :senegal: in a cage with the other one immdediately.

Let them get to know each other first or they 'will' fight, the worst case scenario being death for one or both, if their inclosed to close to each other, one can't run away if the other decides to fight.

I knew a guy who reckoned that he bought two budgies kept them for a week or so, and then came in one day to find that they'd ripped each other up -neither survived their injuries.
