Green cheek conure cage help!

Postby lights106 » Mon Jul 22, 2013 9:08 pm

I'm trying to find a bigger cage for my GCC. I'm on a limited budget since im a single mom, and my bird was a surprise. My sister gave me the bird after she realized she didn't have enough time for him and his original bigger cage for her daughters love birds.
So if you have any I sights or know of better and cheaper prices for bigger and better cages, please let me know!!! Also if there is a problem with the mobile websites, I can provide regular links when I get to work.

The first two are no good -the angled roof is only attractive to humans but its dangerous and a waste of space from the bird's perspective. The third one is OK but, for the same money, you might want to go with one which doesn't have a stand but it's bigger...

This one has a stand but it's the size I would recommend: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Finch-Canary-Pa ... 1e7d125fd9

And this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Prevue-Pet-Prod ... 51acd34fd7

Or this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Prevue-Hendryx- ... 51ae6d3a28

Check your local Craig's list, I have found real excellent bargains there.

To be hoenst with you, with a green cheek NONE of those cages will last five minutes. They too flimsy. If you're going to pay out for one of those and replace it every year you may as well invest in a decent cage like a Montana or a King's cage which are far more robsust. The San Diego and San Remo mini are adequate for one providing it has a lot of out of cage time. However there's some others suitable for a GCC that are a bit larger, they also have stands if this is an attractive option for you.

They are wayyy more sturdy. Also the GCC will figure how to lift those food doors... our cockatiels did and GCC's are much stronger.

Would something like this be better? If it is, I hope it's still available when I get paid next week.

You'd be much better off with something like this:

http://www.kingscages.com/ProductDetail ... SLP%201818

Consider this the bottom end and minimum size of what you should get. Stay away from the wire cages and look for something with bars. It'll last much longer. The thing you should realize is that doing multiple cage upgrades is WAYYY more expensive than getting the right cage off the bat. What I'm pointing out barely makes the cutoff for this.

This is huge and you probably would never need another cage - http://www.kingscages.com/ProductDetail ... D=ELP_2624

Anything between the two I showed is a good size. Just keep in mind that getting a $254 cage to later regret, get rid of it, and buy a $339 cage is a lot more expensive than to go for $339 off the bat. You won't find a proper new cage for less than $200 and don't bother cause it won't be long till you abandon it for one that is over $200.

Yeah there is literally no way I can afford more than $100. $68 is pushing my limit. I'm a single mom, that thank to this glorious Obama Care, I can only get part time jobs. Onrie was given to me unexpectedly otherwise I would have never would get a bird before a good cage. Sigh. I'm hoping to sell some stuff, but it also not going so well.
Was the link I posted just above not a bar?

Haha, keeping even the SMALLEST birds in that cage wouldn't be legal here in Sweden because it's too small, so I'm pretty sure we have TOTALLY different views on the definition of "huge"
I mean, sure, if you don't live here, you obviously don't have to follow our cage size requirements, but I think they're wonderful and could be useful for international people who's looking for cages too.
For instance, 120cm (47") is the shortest allowed width for a small GCC, which I think is very reasonable! Of course, it's pretty hard finding a cage that "big" with appropriate bar spacing or for a reasonable price, but I definitely don't think it's impossible to at least find a good quality cage wider than 26" (Oh and DEFINITELY 18", one of my carriers is about the size of that first one you posted!)

I really liked the first one Pajarita posted, but I also LOVE the size of this one: http://www.amazon.com/Wrought-Divider-C ... 94-6430338
It's really cheap for its size, and even though all big cages do cost quite some money, I'm pretty sure it's more worth its price than a small cage is.
