Bar spacing for a parrotlet

Postby SparkLeAnn » Tue Aug 06, 2013 5:53 pm

Hi I got a good deal on a cage that is really big. 37 inches long x 23 inches wide x 60 inches tall. The problem is that the bar spacing is 3/4 of an inch. I want to get a parrotlet, but I read that a parrotlet can only have 1/2 to 5/8 of an inch. Is 1/8 of an inch a big difference. Please help and if it is too big I can sell it again and buy a flight cage. I really like the cage I got though  . Thanks.

It might not. I've never had plets so I don't really know how adventurous they are (the danger is getting their head, feet or leg stuck). It would work for lovebirds (which are the tiniest bit bigger than plets) if they were in pairs because they just stick to each other and don't try to 'escape' like the single ones do.

Thank you. I will probably get one to begin with then add on. If i leave the cage door open most of the time and just close it at night would the parrotlet still want to go through the bars?

Who knows? Nobody can answer that question. Parrots are individuals and they make their own decisions as to what to do and what not to do so I've learned never to trust anything to luck -better safe than sorry!

I wouldn't risk it and would go for the recommended spacing.

Thanks. I think I will sell the cage I have and get a flight cage, but I just want to make sure because this is a good deal.
