Lining your birdcage in the digital age

Something caught my attention and maybe it's a sign of what's coming.

Apparently there's a major shortage of newspaper for some animal shelters. If print media really is going extinct what's the best alternative for cage bottoms? I wonder if any parrot shelters have encountered similar problems.

That's interesting. Makes sense. I don't subscribe to any papers. I have a stash from when someone was giving them to me but I'm close to running out. For Truman's cage I've been buying liners that are precut cause the pan is larger than any sheet of newspaper.

Oh so there is an alternative. Where do they sell those? how much do they cost?

One possibility is to contact your local public library and ask them about their old newspapers.
I did that when the animal shelter I was volunteering at needed a new source of old newspapers. The library was happy to help out because they were just tossing it all in the recycle bin anyway.

Even that's limited and will eventually end.

If we ever go completely digital we might have to WASH our cages every day.

Another idea would be to buy a ream of cheap drawing paper, which is for all intents and purposes the same thing as newspaper without the ink: http://www.dickblick.com/products/blick ... newsprint/

I'm thinking a roll of kraft paper would work, as well: http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/5 ... led-Kraft/

Myself, I plan to use all the flyers and junk mail that gets crammed into my mailbox every day. (kidding) Too bad THAT won't go away with the digital age!
