Kings Al Travel Cage Size

Postby alex.h » Wed Apr 30, 2014 8:08 pm

I really want to purchase a Kings Aluminum Travel Cage for my budgie, Daisy. I am always worried that we will have to evacuate the house because of tornadoes or other emergencies. As of now I have to have my dad help me load Daisy's cage through the car doors that it barely fits through. I feel like this is putting everyone at risk. I am thinking about getting the ATT1214 Kings Aluminum Travel cage. Do you think this would be a good size for my parakeet?

The small one will be more than adequate for your budgie as a travel cage but even that's fairly heavy. The weight and sturdiness of it will offer more protection for your bird in an emergency but you need to consider also if the weight could hinder a fast evacuation. You will need to modify the small cage though as the bottom pushes upwards. I think someone on here wrote a guide on how to secure it, was it you cml?

I'm wondering if the tiny one would be large enough. It is more in my price range and she's just one little budgie. Plus she would hopefully only be in there for about an hour or less at one time.

Its more than big enough. I use one for my bronze winged pionus, michael uses one for a senegal and a cape parrot. I would worry that the bar spacing is too large though, if you want I can measure it tomorrow if the info isnt in the product info.

I'm pretty sure they are 5/8" apart.

Personally I'd just buy a small cat carrier and assemble it like Michael showed in his videos, just make sure to fasten the entire carrier together with plastic/metal ties so that the carrier doesn't fall apart if you accidentally drop it.

You would have to modify the front with stainless mesh or something, I struggled to find a cat carrier that Ollie couldn't fit his head through- im still going to modify it soon to be 100% safe, with a budgie you would have no chance of it not posing a danger to the bird. The carriers are ok but they cant really live in them for a few days, if your evacuated the chances are you wont be back home soon enough.

I wasn't aware they did a tiny one but the small one is more than big enough and the bar spacing is ok, I think its the same up to a medium. Not sure about the large though.

Marie, I am pretty certain that small=tiny, its confusing but different sites use different nomenclature for the same cage.

I looked on the kings cages website and they have one labeled as tiny. It is the ATT 1214 travel cage.
