Changing Cage - Anything to watch out for?

Postby bmsweb » Sun Feb 14, 2010 3:40 pm

Hi Guys,

We've had Jazz (our Cockatiel) for 3 weeks now and I've purchased a new cage for him, which should be arriving today. Is there anything I should watch out for to make the transition painless as possible?

I am planning on putting his old toys in there to help.

Cheers
Paul

I think it's much easier for a new bird than one that has become more used to its cage. I originally had Kili in a cage too small for the first week or two and then got a bigger cage for her and she settled into the new one just fine. In fact she really became more used to things and liked the new cage better right from the start. So I wouldn't worry much about it at all. If the parrot is used to you, your presence should reassure it about the safety of the new cage. If you are worried, just transfer the old toys/perches to new cage so that it is more familiar. Also put the new cage in the same place as old one so the area is familiar.
