Garden Gazebo

Postby KimberlyAnn » Sun May 04, 2014 10:15 pm

We are moving to a downstairs apartment and will have a 10x12 cement patio. I want to use a garden gazebo. The free standing ones you see a Lowe's, Home Depot, or Walmart. Basically a metal frame with a netting going around all sides. I would bring this thing right to the sliding glass door and secure it to the wall. The netting hangs down and drags on the ground a little, but I'm planning to maybe secure it to the ground somehow, but not sure how this will work.

This structure will be for a second secure door only. She will not be free flying in this structure. The siding glass door is the one that opens and closes a lot. I'm way more worried about that door then I am the front door. Emmi will have an outdoor cage within this structure. The netting will stay closed at all other times for sun, (im also putting up sun screen on one side to keep out the sun) bug and privacy reasons anyway, but there will be an opening where we can enjoy the rest of the fenced yard for gardening and bbqing with seating out there. But honestly...we hate the sun so...lol

Do you think this will work for bird security?

Also, the front door has a 5x5 area with one way in and one way out. I was thinking of hanging floor to ceiling drapes in the opening. We could get through and go out the door. Would that be sufficient? We don't need this walkway other then going in or out the door. I figure it would stop her from randomly flying out to follow us. I can sew it in a way at the top that it would overlap. I do have long enough drapes already that I used to hide an ugly closet wall. Do you think this will work? I'd rather use drapes then netting.

I think it would... but do leave a side where the sun can shine in (soooooo very healthful for birds and she will adore it!). As to the opening, you could also consider those door mosquito screens that have magnets along the opening that shuts them automatically as soon as you go through it.

I have one of those between the living area and kitchen. I works well but sometimes my Grey will fly into it and she tries to climb up it while hanging upside down, while it is funny to see I rescue her quickly. I don't want her to get tangled in it. they also frat pretty easily on the edge with magnets on it. I wish it were made of a heavies weight netting, but overall it works pretty good and they really don't fly into in very often.

I will open it up for the sun to go through when she's out there. :) Let's just hope my husband says yes to the attractive gazebo and no to the pvc structure he wants to build...lol

:D I hear you about the Sacramento sun being unpopular. As I recall from when I was growing up, if you forget your hat July-August it burns the part in your hair, and we didn't count it "hot" until it passed 110 F. Presumably Emmi will hide from in the air-conditioned apartment at those times.

And so will I! Lol So uncomfortable. I'm just glad we don't get much humidity. I long to live by the beach again.
