Well they have to start somewhere. I do know what you mean though. Even with not being able to trust the vet or be certain of the right answers on a forum, it is hard to get accurate answers. You can't trust anything that you find as this is a topic still in its infancy and most of the answers are not yet known. You can find one study that says this and another study will say that the other study is wrong. In the end you have to use every option that you can find and then decide for yourself, and that is really hard when you don't know anything or thought that you had done sufficient research to have a basic understanding.

Yes, there are studies that appear to be contradictory and some are, but, in most cases, it's not so much a contradiction but that we, as laymen, are not knowledgeable enough to understand with any depth the nuances. But, if you teach yourself to 'read' the studies correctly (I know it took me a long time and hard work to even get a reasonable amount of understanding), you can glean A LOT of good info from them.

I don't have a problem with people asking questions in a forum per se, if I did, I wouldn't be here, what ticks me off is that most people will choose to believe the answer that agrees with what they had already decided to do before they even asked the question and use the forums just as a way of justifying a decision that was made more with the human convenience in mind than the bird's.

Yeah, I have seen that a lot and that is also true about most any question regardless of where they get asked. But I do agree with you. This is ridiculous, we agree way too much to start a decent debate, just ridiculous.

Hi Pajarita, you mentioned that you get your birds tested through an online avian lab, was wondering what the name of it is/ whether there's a UK version?

Avian biotec does or used to do disease testing and dna testing in the uk. If you go down that route then you need to follow their instrucions to the letter, you may also need a vet to read the results and carry out any treatments etc. Im not sure if they give straight negative/positive results, im assuming they do clarify results though given their services are/were offered to the general public.
