Would this be a suitable cage?

Postby LittleMissPetPerson » Mon Jun 23, 2014 7:20 pm

Hey everyone! If you've read my other posts you would see that I'm interested in getting a bird in the (probably distant) future. Anyway would this be a good cage for a small bird like an english budgie, cockatiel, Linnie etc. ? Also does anyone have any ideas or other cages that would be good? Because I have 2 dogs (both fine lots of other animals) and a cat (likes to get into everything but I doubt he would hurt a bird) and the distance between the floor and the cage it pretty short so I'd be worried about the other critters scaring the bird.

Thanks!

Looks like it would work for the species that you mentioned. Cats and dogs are predators and birds are a portion of their natural diet and this is a fact that you can never ignore, because if you do then there will be a day when you wake up to or return home to a dog and a cat and a bird cage. I would prefer that, that day doesn't come.

The thing is that even if they don't eat or kill the bird, just been around would stress it (prey animals don't feel comfortable with predators around).

I think that the cage would be fine for what you mention, for the most part. I am not quite as certain for the Cockatiel sized birds. That is really a Finch flight cage with bar spacing suitable for those birds. The bar spacing is on the smaller side for Cockatiels, but smaller is better than too large. What I don't know, and it looks like they don't tell, is the thickness of the cage wire. Without knowing that, I can't say if it is more suited to Finches rather than Cockatiels. If too thin, maybe it is something that could be more easily bent by Cockatiels.

Just something to consider,

Humm, have you read some of the reviews posted about the cage?
