What was once a massive grassland used for cattle, is now the Buenaventura preserve in Ecuador - now home to 351 species of birds, two of them endangered parrots: El Oro parakeet (the reserve was started to save this species) and the grey-cheeked parakeet and many other species plus plants! First link is article, second link is about the preserve and third and fourth are info about the parrot species.
