Can Parakeets and Meyers Parrot get along

Postby nye0079 » Wed Jul 14, 2010 1:10 pm

Hello, I currently have 2 parakeets who spend most of the time in the cage but are free to come out at will and never really got to liking people. We are planning on getting a hand raised Meyers parrot, who will have his own cage. Is it possible to have them free in the same room, or is this too dangerous.

Depends on the kind of parakeet. Some species are even bigger than a Meyer's Parrot.

*yawn*

Assuming you meant budgies, you shouldn't let them interact without close supervision. Even if just the budgies are out and one of them lands on the Meyers' cage it could easily bite a toe or leg off.

Agreed. A Meyers can potentially do a lot of damage to a parakeet (budgie). They are much bigger and the beak on a Meyers is very strong. They might just ignore each other but you'd still have to supervise every time they were all out of their cages together.

Thanks, I will definetly only let them out supervised. And I am taking about budgie's. I was hoping they could be friends for each other but I would never forgive myself if anyone got hurt or worse.

Kika likes to interact with the budgies and tiels I have. He bends his head and wants to be groomed by them, but they dont buy it :D
I just need to watch when one of them lands on Kika's cage, he will attack toes when that happens.
Kika: Senegal Parrot.
