tips on cleaning different perches?

Postby Giantmoa » Thu Sep 02, 2010 10:01 pm

sandy perches and those wood perches that have a slightly rough texture but no bark (maybe sand-blasted manzanita?) seem to have major poop retaining abilities  very annoying! at least with the wood perches I can painstaking shave off the wood with poop stains =/ but sandy perches? bleh! I scrub and scrub and I still see the little white remnants :( and boings and rope perches? how do you guys clean them? if any of you have some miracle tips or cleaning products I will love you forever!

I try to use water pressure to blast them.

I soak toys and anything without wood in it in reeeeally hot water and a capful of some kind of cleaner (it is made for birds, I can't think of the brand off-hand) and for perches I use a water sprayer, like Michael suggested. Luck with the poop! Heehee couldn't resist.

I put the rope perches and boings in the washer. Works quite well!
The sandy perches I brush off with an old toothbrush.
On wood perches I first scrape off the big poops with a screwdriver before soaking them.

It's what I do as well :)
(Cleaner for me is a bit of white vinegar and a bit of dish soap.)

That's what I do as well.

White vinegar and water has become my staple cleaning solution. It works great on the vinly floor for cleaning up poop that I don't see right away.

I wipe off the wood perches every day or two with Poop-off. I also have a little curved wire brush thingy and when I do a full up clean, I scrub with soap and water and the brush as needed. I haven't been sure how to handle the rope perches - when you guys say washer, do you mean dishwasher or clothes washer? What kind of detergent do you use?

Rope perches are my biggest problem now. I've heard suggestions to boil them, but haven't tried it yet. Even if it works Scarlet's is so big I don't think I could fit it in a pot

I hang my rope perches in the shower and blast them clean.

Wood perches get a good soaking in the sink with hot water and dishwashing soap though I might try white vinegar again... I just don't like the way it smells. I need a nice smelling alternative.
