My Java trees

Postby Natacha » Wed Nov 11, 2009 5:02 pm

I have wanted one of these for the longest time, but always found them to be terribly expensive and scarcely available in Canada.

However...this "new" distributor (at least, I haven't really heard of them before) has started carrying Java wood products and more pet stores here have got decent toys/perches available at a decent price.

I found this Java tree a couple of weeks ago.

The branches were a little wider than what I would have liked, but they aren't too big and I liked the tree overall. The birds took to it immediately.

Then, last Saturday, I came across this one and grabbed it. I got a really nice deal on it (mind you the other was also reasonably priced, but not this nice!). Branches are more to my liking size wise.

Going to see if I can't find another one at the CPC this week-end. Since I'll be moving and that the birds will have their own room, I still want plenty of stands to put in the living room so I can bring them out there when we are watching tv and stuff.

Are the branches slippery? Is that why they need sandpaper on them?

The branches tend to be slippery yes.
It's not sandpaper, it's vet wrap. I've added it to get them use to the branches at first. They go on the parts with and without vet wrap. Once they get accustomed to the branches, I'll probably take the vet wrap off the ones that aren't too big.

Oh ok. How is that compared to manzanita for slipperiness?

I think Java is less slippery..my birds seem to have an easier time to grip it, even without the vet wrap.

What were the approximate sizes of these trees? Just out of curiosity.

GAH! I'm so jealous of your java stands! I'm nervous about buying one online because you usually can't see a picture of the one you are getting. :(

i agree, but the one i did buy from kingscages.com gives you the exact tree as pictured (there are a lot to choose from). other then that, i would not purchase one through a site that has one general picture and expects you to pay a lot of money for what could be a poorly structered branch. :)
