Great idea for cage cleaning!!

So I was searching around on youtube and came across this post:

For those that can't see it, this person uses Glad press and seal wrap and uses two sheets to cover the bottom seed pan. Then when cleaning, you just lift the corners and gently pull off the press and seal and voila! easy peasy!!

OK, I couldn't turn the sound on because I'm in my office, but since I'm using precut white paper, I can't see much utility except to put it under the paper -- but I find the tray easy to wipe up with Poop Off anyway. It's the darned GRATE that I find a pain to clean up. Any ideas there?

This is what I do.

1. I actually take the whole cage outside and I first rinse the whole lot with water.
2. Then I remove the grate and use a brush to clean the cage.
3. Rinse the grate again and rinse the brushed cage down.
4. Now I use the brush on the grate and rinse it down.

I find leaving water on the grate helps soften up all the food and droppings and I don't spend hours scrubbing it. I have 3 big cages and one little one to clean.

what I do with the grate is I remove it then stick it under sink faucet and scrub one side with a brush then flip it and scrub the other side then dry it off and it is very clean!!

Scooters is small enough to take to the sink, Scotty's is not, it's bigger than the whole divided double kitchen sink. Wish I could wrap the whole cage in plastic wrap! For every day or two, I just spend a lot of time wiping the grate and bars clean with Poop Off wipes...

You guys who take the cages outdoors regularly must have bigger doors than we do! Scooter's was possible with only a minor struggle, but Scotty's BARELY fits through the doors and that's if the seed guard is taken off. What do people with macaws do? In fact, this is why I got a steam cleaner, but that's for full cleanups and I've only done that once. Its probably time again now... The steam cleaner at least allows me to clean the cages in the room they live in!

I just dont use a grate. More trouble than it's worth.

My cockatiel cage never came with a grate. And I find it a million times better to clean than the budgie cage. My birds never really walk on the ground, and I clean their cages regularly so there isn't a huge mess.

After a while, I said screw it, and I removed the budgie grate.


I'm actually thinking about changing the floor from newspaper to this: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.j ... &lmdn=Bird

It's what they use in the pet stores, and the reviews seem good. And it's bird safe and doesn't smell!

How do you find the steam cleaner for cleaning the grate? Cause I have to soak Truman's grate in the hot shower for about 10 minutes before anything comes off and then scrub scrub scrub. And I have to do this at least 3 times a week.
