Olive Oil on to Avoid Crusties

Very much enjoying the posts here, wondering if olive oil on the sides of the bottom part of the cage would make cleaning that area easier?? Risks??

As was once said to a colleague in a meeting.... "thanks for thinking outside of the box -- now get back in the box!". Just kidding, but my initial reaction is that while it might decrease adhesion, it isn't a workable approach. Olive oil does go rancid pretty quickly and could smell unpleasant and perhaps even grow some nasties. It is also generally not good for feathers to get oily, and if the bird had any contact with the surfaces, the oil would likely get everywhere. At the other end of the spectrum, if they found it tasty, they might actually start licking surfaces that are likely to get contaminated. So my guess is this is not the best tactic. Save the olive oil for the kitchen! Where it is priceless!

Not to mention the sticky gue it will become when dander, dust and other muck gets stuck on the surface...

The effort is appreciated though ;)

*chuckling at the thought of Jimmy the Hood licking his cage* I thought maybe between washings (twice a week- is that enough?)...it did occur to me that oil would be a problem on feathers...but, the tipper was definitely the cage licking...so back it goes, into the cupboard for the next meal!

Too fun guys, too fun!

How about a nonstick coating like teflon?

That's a joke, right? It would flake right off, and while it is mainly toxic when fumes from overheated teflon are inhaled, eating it probably isn't great for them either.
