I'm glad your hubby is more open to spending on a bigger cage!! 40 x 30" is a really good size, but for ONE Eclectus. I would go way bigger for two :)

If your husband is not sure he wants this bird, I certainly wouldn't be getting a female. They are definitely not the type of bird for the " unsure " owner. Female Eclectus can have quite the temperament (although not all of them), and you'd have to really be quite fond of the specie and determined to go through the different stages she will go through with her.

Go to this forum (talks about Eclectus only) and read a little bit about what female owners are posting about. You'll get the idea of what I'm talking about.

Maybe you already have been there, but this is just a little bit of the great amount of information I personnaly read before acquiring my Eclectus. They are unique parrots, and certainly not for everyone, because of their particular dispositions and diets. Anyone who wants one in their life should do a great deal of reading before hand (as for any other parrot, for that matter).
