How do your birds sleep?

I think my bird might be the weird one, but he sleps on his food bowl and turns his head round, puffs up and sleeps

He sounds normal to me. At night they get as high as they can to sleep.

I strung a rope across my sunroom because I saw a video of Cocoa playing on a vine. I understand Myrtle playing on it during the day but this is just a skinny rope and she sleeps on it at night. I don't know how she holds on all night but she does.

Rambo has a little cage on top of his big cage. He calls it his "nite nite".

You should get Papaya a Sleep/Happy tent. He/She will love it. Maxx, my GCC, takes a few naps in his a day, and at 8:30 climbs in and is out for the night. I just cover the cage and he is good unitl I uncover at 7-7:30 the next morning

I only cover them on cold winter nights. In NC we don't have many. The rest of the time they sleep like the outside birds do. Go to sleep at dusk and wake up just before dawn. They all take a nap between 1:00 and 3:00 in the afternoon.

If you can't provide a dark enough sleeping area/room, covering your bird's cage is actually the humane option (birds prone to night-frights being the exception). Otherwise, my understanding is that they're unable to rest sufficiently.

What is it about covering your bird's cage that makes you feel that you're not treating it "right"?

well, I can understand that. I don't know if ya'll are in a studio apartment or another situation where you have to stay in a lighted room/area w/your bird into the night hours. You'll have to weigh that against any hormonal-driven behavior problems she may begin to exhibit due to prolonged exposure to (day)light. Covering a cage is just a helpful tool to use if you can't provide your bird w/enough "night-time" in any other way.
