Very happy that I have hardwood floors.

The problem I get with poop, is that no matter how much space my birds have, the poop always ends up in the water dish.

I have that same problem and I have no idea how it happens. I purposely don't put perches above their food and water dishes to avoid that problem. In fact, perches and toys are kept a couple inches from the dishes to keep them from pooping in them to no avail. I change four water dishes at least three times a day now. The mix of all of them pooping in their dishes or dipping their food in them makes the water look like swamp water.

You can also get clear flexible plastic you could put down, much less unsightly. We have it covering a section of the cage where the bowls are, which stops a lot of seed/fruit flying out.

Also, we have no perches above bowls in the GCC's cage, but they have a habit of dropping off the side of perch to poo, and end up having their bums above the water.

Umm, as long as we're talking poop, may I just add that I am flat-out AMAZED at the volume of poo JJ (GCC) is able to produce! She's 2/3 the size of Bucky (he's ~103 gms, she's 64 gms.), but her poos are at least twice as big as his! What's UP with that? The only saving grace in that situation is that somehow, by the grace of God, she's potty trained herself. She has a potty spot in the playpen, and outside of that will only go when she's put on the floor. I've held her for hours at a time and she's never pottied on me. She's flown off so she could go on the floor, but has never gone on me. Bucky, on the other hand... **splat!**

I've always been amazed that Cheney Bird, for such a tiny bird, can produce such large volumes of waste. He's not too much larger than the budgies, so I was a bit shocked and worried at first.

Especially in the morning, Cheney Bird has a habit of breaking out of his cage and will poop on the floor or on the bed sheet covering the budgies cage which is closer to my bed. I wish he would poop and then come out!

do you mean a linoleum?

No, a really thin peace of wall(cardboard?) people use to decorate, I used it on the wall(wood-like) and for the floor (looks like linoleum)under the bunnie/budgies cages.

I know that it didn't look perfect, but it kept my carpet safe.

i use soda water, if it gets red wine out of carpet it gets poop out!

My saving grace is that Yoshi is almost completely potty trained. She will not go on me anymore (thank GOD!) and I've taught her to go 'poo' only above toilets, sinks and trash cans. It's amazing how much better it gets when they are potty trained. Best bet for the birds who hang out on their cage doors and what not is to put an old towel below them and let them go on that. It's what I do for the Lovebirds and it works quite well. They aren't trained yet so it's harder to get them to ALWAYS poop there, but I'm trying.

Also, Budgie poop is amazing. It's soooooo easy to clean. And GCC's, splat is a very correct description for them. Good luck and may your carpets remain clean
