Wellllll. . . . I'm the Queen of Frugal (Cheap). If you don't mind a utility look, you can house a large macaw in a cage w/ 10 gauge wire. Some don't look too bad.

Look at the KW Cages catalogue:

It's great that your dad is doing this for you! I've definitely found cages cheaper online than I have been able to in stores. I also try to check e-bay since you can always find some pretty good deals there.

I got both of my cages for $99 each and free shipping. They're not Macaw cages, but for the birds they house, they're pretty big. I would also sign up for newsletters from every bird website you can find. A lot of times they send coupon codes for discounts on merchandise.

Most of what I have bookmarked is for toys, but I know mybirdcage.com has a feature at the bottom of some of their cage listings advertising discounts to qualifying zip codes.

http://www.mybirdcage.com/double_macaw_cage.html if you scroll down to the middle of the page, it says to email them to make an offer on the cage and they'll consider offers in certain zip codes. I'm not sure which zip codes qualify, and I've never ordered from this particular site before.

I would also consider an indoor aviary for a bird that large. Most of the Macaw cages I've seen seem so small to me, especially considering how I pack cages full of perches and toys. That's just me, though.. and I have a 20.5 x 17 x 32 cage for two tiny budgies.. so, I have a tendency to go a little overboard.

I think the minimum for a macaw is 5 feet by 5 feet by 8 feet. At least thats what I read here http://www.petplace.com/birds/choosing- ... page1.aspx
