But I feel like that cage size in unrealistic. I have never seen a macaw in that size of a cage unless it was in an outside aviary.

I would look for a cage that the bird can comfortably spread his wings in. Macaws also have those really long tails, so you'll need to make sure it's high enough to house its tail comfortably as well. I tend to double the suggested cage measurements and then get that cage, but there's no way you could fit a 10 x 10 x 16 foot cage in your bedroom!

Haha exactly! My plan is to get the biggest cage possible! But not so large that I have to put my bed in the hallway haha.

My birds take up 1/4 of my apartment! Once I buy an extension cord so I can move my computer and tv to where they are and move them to where the tv and computer are, they'll take up 1/2 of my apartment living space.

Clearly I wouldn't say go overboard.. but bigger is always better in terms of cages.

Haha yeah bigger is better. The good thing about the new house is that my room is 2 rooms put together, theres a first room where I was planning on putting the bird, and then theres my room separated by a doorway where my bed will be. So I should be able to fit a pretty large cage in there.

Back when I had my M2, the cage I had him in was not big enough to flap his wings in. My house was tiny - about 800 sq. ft. No way I could fit a big honkin' cage in that house. But that too was out every day and I had a huge yard. I'd take him outside and play tag with him pretty much every day. He'd be flapping all over the yard, running and yelling. So, I never felt bad that he had a small cage. He pretty much only slept in it at night. It's kinda like kenneling a dog. They get used to it. So long as they're out hours and hours every day and get to exercise I think they're fine.

Oh yeah, if the bird's out for hours daily, I don't think you need quite as large a cage. All of my birds are out all day every day, so I could have probably went with 18" x 18" x 18" cages for all three of them, but I tend to go a little overboard.

Also, disregard the post about keeping a bird in a cage where he has no room to flap his wings. He has to have at least enough room to do that. Sure, he might get used to it, just like a person could probably get used to sleeping in a closet... but would they really want to?
