Quaker Aviary

Postby Aloysius » Fri Oct 07, 2011 2:34 pm

I own a green Quaker Parrot in Ohio where I must clip it's wings, and I was wondering whether to make it an aviary when it can't fly. I heard that parrots need sunlight so if anyone can help me with that i would appreciate it.

Why would you clip it's wings?

I would clip it's wings because it is illegal in Ohio to do otherwise. Plus, no one in my family would like it if a parrot was flying about.

That is awful that by law you have to clip wings. It makes them feel insecure.

I am in NC so no such law. Mine can fly but preferr to stay in the room with their cages.

well, it doesn't say (I think) how MUCH you have to clip them. Next time I clip them I'll leave her a little room, so she can fly a little bit but not fly off into trees or anything. sooooooo, should i give her an aviary?

Clipped wings can still travel with an updraft. They just can't fly away from danger.

I am planning an aviary for my tiels, but I would bring them in in bad weather and also at night. I can't sleep unless all pets are in. My cats have even learned 9 pm is in time.

She would probably love to be outside and even enjoy a warm summer rain. It would also be stimulating for her to see what goes on out there. Just be very careful with transport between house and aviary.

I am planning to make one that extends from a window so they can come and go at will.

Well naturally, I would bring her in every night to her cage. it gets cold here at night even in the summer, and I would bring her in during bad weather!
