Best Playpen/Playgym?

Postby Zooey » Tue Dec 20, 2011 4:48 pm

I'm just looking around for some playpens that would work for budgies. I want a playgym that would be fairly big and has lots of thingamajigs that would keep them occupied, enough space to walk around, but not too expensive. So far I haven't found anything that fits that description. Can anyone help me in my search for the best playpen around?

Most of the play gyms i see around for budgie sizes birds are about 30cm by 30cm. The last one i saw was 40 dollars. Maybe you could try make your own or search on ebay?

Luckily for you, the majority of bird play gyms are designed for budgies and birds around that size. Here in England, the price for a good quality budgie play gym is about £20, so that's around about $30. Not too expensive, so it won't be too hard to find one. Good luck!

I just built my own, as the ones you can buy at stores are too small.

I don't really know how to build my own... I'm not so good with tools. I'm just looking for one in a store.

You don't have to be good with tools, i built my first parrot tree when i was 9 years old and had pretty much never used a screwdriver before. : P
Just go out, find a nice big branch with loots of twigs/smaller branches on it, fasten some sticks using screws or tough string (work for bugies but not bigger birds) and fasten the whole thing to a decently sized piece of wood, or anything else you may have that is suitable for it to stand on.
I think most storebought "playgyms" don't even deserve their name, but if that's what you're looking for i hope you find one. :)

Or stick a tree branch in a Christmas tree stand. Cover the stand with newspaper.

I just found a tree outside and stripped it, cleaned it well and stood it in a vase. I now use bunjee cords from limb to limb so there is no nailing involved. He absolutely LOVES this tree and has played for two years on it. I have a rope that he can go over to his cage whenever he wants and goes back and forth all day. :sun: trying to attach the pic but iPad won't let me! Ugh!
