Thanks Andromeda and GlassOnion,

A Dometop or a Flight Cage are both worth further research. A flight cage would be ideal if it came with a play top, or I can look at the 24x22 Avian Adventure with the removable Playtop.

You can buy separate cage-top perches/gyms for the flight cage. Besides, the playtop style makes the overall inside pretty dark. Bigger is always better!

Are those flight cages "strong" enough for a Caique or Senegal? Seriously, I'm asking because I already have one, it's what I had Mu in as his main cage. I was just concerned because the wires seemed on the thin side to me. And all the food bowls are plastic non-parrot toss proof (but I guess that could be solved by getting replacements). All the flight cages I've looked into here have seemed to me to be more of a budgie/lovebird size bars (which is what I have). lol, although even if it would work, it would only be temporary, it's not the easiest cage to clean. It's too big to fit in the bathtub, and since I am no longer in a house I'll have to transport it to a car wash area to give it a good scrub down, so I'll want an easier cage to clean with the larger bird. Mu was small enough where all I had to do was change his papers out and do spot cleaning on a regular basis and only a complete tear down once a month. I have a feeling a Senegal will need it more often! :D

Oh, an I do like the idea of the AA removable playtop that can be replaced with a dome! I'll have to look into it some more. My biggest problem is that I would really like to see one in person first. We have a bird show at the fairgrounds in Orlando in April, I'm really hoping they have some cages to showcase. I'd really like to see them in person. lol, it's also where I'm hoping to find a breeder for my new senigal. The pet shops around here suck. I'm not even going to go into how one store was keeping their breeder pair of caique's. It made me real sad and mad. I really wanted to rescue them but I knew I didn't have the time or space for two (although what I'd give them would still be an improvement), but I also didn't want to reward that store with a sale of any kind.

GlassOnion, what cage brand do you use/recommend? What do you think of A&E?

Hi, Christie. I live in Sanford, FL but unfortunately I'm not familiar with any pet shops in the area.

I understand that you want to see the cage in person but I did a search on Google and found out that PetSmart carries the cages online and their return policy is "buy online, return in-store." The fine print is "you can return the product for the purchase price (minus the shipping, handling, gift wrap, and other charges)" so the drawback is that you'd have to eat the shipping charges if you ended up wanting to return it.

I'm not a huge fan of PetSmart but I just thought I'd let you know that's an option.

Andromeda, thanks for the heads up about the Petsmart return policy. I'm sure I'll drive myself nuts before I actually purchase one. But as I don't even have a deposit down on a bird yet, I figure I have time to do more research! Either way, I'm finding this to be a very interesting topic!

Hey, does anyone know how to tell who makes a cage if you are buying used? Do any of these companies mark their cages in someway so I can look for that? I'm just curious because I've also seen cages in stores that don't have anything listed on who makes the cage, it just states it's size and price.

My brown headed parrot has a Featherland cage and it says "Featherland 2130" (2130 is the model) on it.

My GCC was a re-home and his previous owner provided his cage. It's very large for a GCC which is great but it has no markings on it whatsoever. It's grey and powder-coated and it has a large metal seed guard around the bottom but that's pretty much all I know about it. I've looked all over the cage for some type of identifying mark or number or label but there's nothing.
