I would love to one day have a walk in closet converted into a parrot room where there is no cage. I think it is unwise to have a free range parrot unsupervised (clipped or not). That's asking for a bird to eat something it shouldn't.

Really though, all homes are cages. It's not like the bird is allowed to fly 15 miles east if it wants. Trying to balance "natural" in a human environment is tricky. I would be more focused on making sure my bird has an enriching life than focusing on things I would think are natural.

That is what I was thinking. If you have company that makes him nervouse he could fly to the door when it is open.

Rambo and Myrtle have a big cage. I took the door off because it was never closed and in the way. It is hanging on the side of the cage and can be put back on in just a few minutes. Instead of caging I usually close the doors and leave them in the sunroom.

Mine don't stay put in a corner. They are everywhere. When I finally sit down and watch TV in the evening, everything piles up on me. Dogs, cats and even birds get together to annoy me while I am trying to hear the TV.

Rambo has a favorite dog named Riddick. When he sees him in the back yard he will call, "Riddick come're boy come're hurry hurry quick quick". If Riddick ignores him he gets discusted and tells me, as if I will help, "Riddick won't come're".

Myrtle has a favorite dog, Jasmine, and a favorite cat, Squeekie. She talks to the cat as if she is talking to a human. She plays with Jasmine by zooming her and making her jump. One evening Jasmine was the one getting petted on my lap. Myrtle climbed down the front of me and petted her on the back.

My critters have created very strange bonds. They also look out for each other. If one of them makes a strange noise they all go to check it. It is so funny to see dogs, cats and birds go to my old cat, Fancy, if she gets a claw caught while climbing on the couch.

I know this is unique. I would not suggest this to anyone else. I did not teach any of them to tolerate the other. They just seem to know if I bring it in the house and pet it that it belongs to me just like they do. It just happened.

your house sounds like my kind of heaven. i can visualize how neat it must be to have such an extended family as this. it just goes to show how well it can work to have a mulitple pet household.
you sure have a way with animals to create such harmony in your home.
like you, i have no worries with my 4 dogs (whippets) and my birds. whenver he is off the cage somewhere, they give me this look "mom, the bird is out again". they always move to another spot if any bird comes near them.
my amazon i rehomed now has a very good relationship with the 2 cats that live there. she walks all over them. its an amazing thing to see. and i was so afraid to let her near my dogs as i thought she would bite them, but all along i think she just wanted to be friends.
you have an amazing household Liz , which reflects on what a wonderful pet owner you are.

My house is clean but far from neat. Now imagine the variety of toys all over the place. It takes me as long to pick them up and put them back by species as it does to clean the floor.

That is nice he can live outside. That looks like a small cage for him. What size is it?

actually the cage is bigger than it looks in the 1st photos
here is a different shot of the cage with him while i was getting the stand set up in the corner.
he is a small bird so the cage was actually a decent size for him, but nevertheless he chose to live
"outside the box" so to speak
Image
and here is where the stand will be in the kitchen corner. he has a good view out the window here

i think he likes it.

on top the white stand you can see a bird figurine. it was a good find at a flea mkt.
its an IRN and the statue is metal.

looks like it may be a while till he figure out there are some toys on the top of his little shelf. i have to construct a way for him to get up there to get them.
i may use his playstand up there. not sure yet, it might not fit.........
i will try tomorrow
