I'm a big proponent of sleep cages for many of the reasons already mentioned. It also allows us to stay up later in our main space where we also have her big daytime cage. We're in an apartment so we put a travel cage on a closet shelf. The space around is large and not air tight so it's ideal. We use an aluminum kings cage.

There are cheaper alternatives about the same size. We have one or two rope perches in there. Another option might be a moon bulb. Featherbright makes a moon bulb that might help the transition.

We have one but find its much brighter than we expected. For close up use in a small space we ended up creating a fixture around it that adds diffusion. You could use one of these in a whole bird room.

We used to use a larger cage in the same closet but in the lower part of it, we could tell, especially when she was younger, that being placed relatively low to sleep was not seen as ideal. I think being on the high shelf when we moved to the smaller cage helped things. Since of course higher up equals more security.

We also have this cage. Knowing what I know now and if were on a tighter budget I probably would have just gotten this for a sleep cage. We use it for trips to the park since it's very light weight but I question the quality of the coating and metal underneath and wouldn't leave her alone it for long periods of time.

I had no idea that people slept with their birds. That's the cutest thing. :)

Hi Eurycerus! Yes, people do sleep with their birds. I've come to see that a lot more people sleep with their birds than I ever thought, but many of us don't want to admit it because we think people will think we're weird. But people sleep with puppies and kittens, and that's adorable, so why not sleep with our birds? At least that's how I feel, but then, I sleep with my bird - LOL. :irn:

Makes sense to me. although I fear that my allergies would prevent me from sleeping with any animal. I wish I could.. :/

Yes, it’s very sweet to let your bird sleep with you. I killed my first bird doing that. Now I will allow my birds to have afternoon naps with me on the sofa, but never again will they sleep all night in the bed with me.
