New play gym for my bird

Postby Tro » Wed Jun 27, 2012 3:19 am

Hi,
I recently bought my bird (GCC named Tak) and it wasnt very long after I bought him that i realized i needed to purchase a play stand that could move from room to room with me. The playstands on the market are either really expenssive wood or really boring (but cheap) metal ones. I decided to get the cheap metal one and see how he liked it. My bird barely moved on it he stayed on the top perch and looked confused and frustrated as to how he was supposed to get down to his food bowl or his bird swing. He would also constantly try and fly off it. I decided to make some changes to the stand in hopes my bird would like it more. I added a few rope perches and a wood perch and my bird is now completely mobile on the stand and looks like he enjoys it much better now. He looks like a little surffer moving up and down the rope perch that stretches the height of the play gym. :D

I would still rather get him one of those really fancy wood play gyms that look like tree tops but for my budget being what it is i think that this worked out pretty good. It was much cheaper to buy this play stand and deck it out than buy a tall wood play gym.

The picture I added showes Tak on his way to his bird swing. He is climbing down the rope perch right behind his manzanita perch. One of the rope perches it attached to his cage so he can go back and forth to get food and water. When I take the play stand into another room the rope perch that is attached to his cage is easy enough to remove.
I wanted to add this post incase anyone else was having the problem of wanting to get a fun play stand for their bird but are not able to break the bank on one.
Opinions on this and recomedations on how to make his play stand more fun for him are welcome. Thanks for reading. :D

Do you mean the Java trees? If so then I agree they are hideously expensive.
Looks like you've already found ways to modify the stand you do have though so you can add bits or change bits as you feel the need to :)
