How Much Would You Pay For Tree

Postby Michael » Thu Aug 16, 2012 10:12 am

As I'm wrapping up development of my new parrot tree line, I'm curious what amounts you have paid for a tree or would pay for a tree (and what kind of bird it's for). What do you think a fair price is? What features do you like? What features do you think are missing that you would like to see? Your feedback may help me make the most parrot suited tree on the market! Thanks.

It depends on the tree, and as there are no java trees at all available here, its very hard for me to judge what is an approriate price other than my gut feeling and what I feel I could/would pay for one!

My absolute max would be around 200$ no matter how good the tree was, because as its possible to buy so much good stuff, it wouldnt feel right to spend all of the parrot budget on a 500$ tree. That money would be, in my case (as I build stuff myself), better spent on other stuff =)!

I really like your tree Michael, the one you have for Truman is freaking awesome :) ! I really hope this project goes well, because its as you've said, a market where there is much lacking!

I agree with cml's post somewhere in the $200 range but probably not over. $130 bought me the stand that I have now (it's not a tree though), and I'd be willing to dish out a little bit more for a tree stand.

100 would be good. I would pay a bit more if its worth it. I like trees with a lot of different shaped branches going everywhere with a bunch of horizontal branches for the birds to stand comfortably. Also I want branches in different levels and with plenty of well placed eye screws so I can puts toys on it.

i would probably go 200 as well for the right tree the ones i've seen so far have not impressed me so i built my own. i'd like to see some with more dishes attached , more branches, and more places to put toys.

I'm not going to lie I would probably only go up to 100. I fully understand the time and energy that goes into it and that is why it's so expensive. So on that note:

I think a do it yourself package would be great where you provide the various parts (base, branches, etc) and then we jam it together the way we want it. Yeah it might not look as pretty (but hey you never know) but I am more than willing to use my own labor and cut down on costs. Not exactly sure where you got your branches from since I've never seen them just loose. I personally don't care about food/water dishes of any kind. Those eye hooks of yours are brilliant but again something I am capable of and would probably prefer to put where I want them anyway.

Sounds like I'm the outlier that just wants the bulk items, which is probably why I'm not willing to spend upwards of 200. In addition due to the unusual wood: Java wood, probably my low ball number is impossible. Still figured I'd input.

Ohh I dont know, if I saw a totally amazing tree I would probably spend on it but if not probably £100 would be my upper limit and tbh that would probably be pushing it for the size of birds I keep and the fact fresh branches are easy to come by for me.
For a bigger bird that chews alot I would pay up to £100 for a better quality tree than I can make myself as long as they really are hardwearing.

I do like the idea of a base with DIY branches to arrange as you wished (within reason)or change about to add variety.
I'm not bothered about food or water dishes, my birds can go back in their cages any time they wish for water.
I also like the idea of a table top version as well as a full tree.
I would prefer mainly horizontal perches but the odd verticle one wouldn't put me off as long as it had a bend/enough of an angle so it would hang toys with a bit of room round it.

If I was purchasing a tree I would like to see pictures of the tree built up at various angles or the individual elements that would make up a DIY tree. I very much prefer to see trees/cages and that sort of thing in person as they are expensive purchases to get wrong and its hard to tell what they are really like from a single picture or 2 but obviously that isn't possible.

I agree with a lot of the points above, and thats why I said that 200$ would be my absolute max, 200$/£ is still a lot of money. Parrots are expensive, and I easily spend about 50$ per parrot a month, so dishing out 200$, well then the product really needs to be great :).

As with Marie, I have easy access to branches and build my own stuff for the most part to save money, as well as entertain the parrots with fresh leaves.

I do love those java trees though, both Trumans, and the one that Marsha has for her eclectuses :). I wish that there were at least some perches available here, but there are none!
Oh well, thankfully I can build perches and modify fresh branches myself!

In this case I think you guys will be really thrilled with what I have coming up. I've just been held up with perfection and optimizing things. My ideas are solid now but still working on making the best of it.

I made a survey with some specific questions about tree details. I'd appreciate if you could fill them in for me but it will also create documentation of what folks want in a parrot tree!

PS, the trees I'm developing for sale are nothing like Truman's (for good and for bad). To make a tree like his, I'd charge no less than $500 so as they say in bklyn, fughetaboutit.

I hope it turns out well for you Michael, but as Marie said, I would be wary of ordering online, and definately not from abroad.

Be sure to post lots of pictures so people can get a good idea of what they can expect =)!
